McBroom supports new budget

LANSING, MI--   While Governor Gretchen Whitmer calls the Legislature-approved budget bills “a mess,” Senator Ed McBroom says it’s a fiscally responsible, balanced budget that doesn’t raise taxes and still directs money to fix roads.

The Vulcan Republican says it includes $950,000 to help cover a shortfall in pension funding for the Michigan Works! UPWARD Talent Agency. The agency supports workforce development in six western U.P. counties.

McBroom says he also secured language in the budget to increase accountability of the Michigan Department of Corrections in monitoring the health of officers; to keep open so-called sheltered workshops that employ and train those with special needs in local communities; and to require the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to update its rules to allow for more workers at substance abuse treatment facilities.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
