MCSO wins Salvation Army fundraising contest

MARQUETTE, MI--   After a heated battle to raise money for charity, it was the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office that came out on top last week.

Friday deputies and troopers from the Michigan State Police Post in Negaunee collected money at the entrances to the Marquette Wal-Mart for the Salvation Army. When the donations were tallied, troopers found they’d lost the friendly match, but the two agencies collectively raised $1,831.12.

The money will stay local and fund the Salvation Army’s food pantries, as well as other assistance programs throughout the year.

Troopers say they left the event feeling appreciated and respected by the community. They thank everyone who helped out.
