Meth components found at two Escanaba sites

ESCANABA, MI--   Police continue to investigate two suspected meth labs found in Escanaba last week.

Thursday around 9:30 a.m. Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team detectives were called to the city landfill site, where meth-manufacturing components were found in a recycling container.

Friday around 1 a.m. UPSET assisted Escanaba Public Safety officers when meth components were found in a residence at 310 S. 12th Street.

No arrests have been made at this time.

UPSET is encouraging the public to use caution if components related to meth are located.  Often the components are filled with hazardous materials and should only be handled by certified hazmat responders wearing protective equipment.

Since January 1, 2015 UPSET has been called to 55 meth labs across the U.P.  That’s a 50% increase from last year at this time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
