Michigan officials award grants to improve fish habitat

LANSING, MI (AP)--   Michigan officials have selected eight projects to share a combined $1.25 million in grants for restoring fish populations and improving aquatic ecosystems. 

The Department of Natural Resources chose the winners from among 24 applicants.

Fisheries Division Chief Jim Dexter says degraded habitat threatens fish around the state.

The Aquatic Habitat Grant Program is funded by revenues from fishing and hunting license fees.

The Marquette County Conservation District was given $138,712 to replace a culvert on Norwald Creek and restore 650 feet of Brickyard Creek.
