Michigan to suspend most road projects over holiday weekend

LANSING, MI (AP)--   The Michigan Department of Transportation is suspending much of its road and bridge work to ease traffic during the busy Labor Day holiday weekend.

Starting at 3 p.m. Friday, MDOT will remove traffic restrictions on 92 of 131 active projects statewide. The construction suspension will end at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

State Transportation Director Kirk Steudle says the agency had no choice but to leave some lane restrictions in effect. He is urging drivers to use extra caution in work zones.
