Missing Escanaba boy found

ESCANABA, MI--   An 11-year-old boy who ran away from Escanaba’s Upper Elementary School and prompted a city-wide search has been found.

The Department of Public Safety says school officials were speaking to Jacob Messenger Thursday around 11 a.m. when he ran from the building. DPS officers, troopers from the Gladstone Post, Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Search and Rescue personnel, DNR officers, and volunteers from the Escanaba Township, Ford River Township, and Nahma Township fire departments helped in a search of the city.

Delta County Central Dispatch received a call around 4:15 p.m. from an Escanaba school bus driver, who said he saw the missing boy. Officers responded to the area where he was seen and found him in good condition near the 100 block of North 15th Street.

The boy was reunited with his family.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
