HOUGHTON, MI-- A Houghton County man who pleaded to stabbing a Hubbell woman to death and trying to kill her daughter last September has been sentenced.
Paul Moilanen, 43, of Hubbell pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in the death of Marcy Lavigne and attempted murder in an attack on her 14-year-old daughter.
In Houghton County Circuit Court on Monday Moilanen was sentenced to 37½ to 60 years in prison with credit for 346 days already served. He was not present at the sentencing.
In 2004 Moilanen was given six to 15 years in prison for slashing the throat of a 92-year-old man. He was released from prison after eight years.
