More come forward as Nassar survivors

ANN ARBOR, MI (MPRN)--   The total number of survivors who have come forward in the Larry Nassar case is now around 500.

Michigan State University reached a settlement with 332 survivors last May, but 167 additional survivors made new claims by the September 10th deadline set by the Michigan legislature.

That brings the total to about 500 women and girls who have accused Larry Nassar of sexually assaulting them.

The initial settlement with Michigan State University included a $75 million carve-out for new claims, but Michael Pitt, a spokesman for the group's attorneys, says that doesn't matter.

"We don't consider ourselves bound by that amount,” he says. “There's going to be some frank discussion about the fair amount that's going to be used to compensate this group of women."

Proceedings in the lawsuit are currently on hold for settlement negotiations.
