Negaunee raising funds to create VFW Memorial Park

NEGAUNEE, MI--   The City of Negaunee is trying to restore its VFW monument and create a Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Park through a crowdfunding effort.

A campaign has been established on Patronicity. If the crowdfunding goal of $12,000 is reached by June 2 the project will win a matching grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Public Spaces Community Places program.

The monument was constructed in 1949 and has eroded over the years in the U.P.’s harsh weather. Money raised will be used to restore the monument. Funds will also go toward creating a plaza in Downtown Negaunee. Officials say the site will serve as a gathering point for community events. The space was designed in partnership with the VFW, the City of Negaunee and Local Boy Scout Troop 321.

For project details and to donate go to patronicity.com/negauneevfw.
