Negaunee woman at fault in two-vehicle crash

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, MI--   Two people are injured following a traffic crash in Marquette Township.

State Police say Thursday around 10:35 in the morning Mary Parkkonen, 82, of Negaunee was eastbound on US-41 when she ran the red light at Brickyard Road.  She struck a vehicle driven by Jennifer Tavernier, 52, of Marquette, which was crossing the highway.

Both drivers were taken to UPHS Marquette for treatment. 

Parkkonen was cited for disregarding a traffic control device.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
