New GM named at Eagle Mine

MARQUETTE COUNTY, MI--   Marquette County’s Eagle Mine has a new general manager.

Officials announced Thursday that Kristen Mariuzza took over the post effective September 18. She succeeds Peter Richardson, who was promoted to a senior corporate position within Lundin Mining.

Mariuzza was previously the Health, Safety, Environment, and Permitting Manager at Eagle. Officials say she has experience with the mine from the early project phase to full production.

Mariuzza started her mining career as a Michigan Tech student working at the Empire Mine, both as an environmental intern and a vacation replacement in the pit. She eventually earned a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering from Tech.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
