New U.P. health system created

ISHPEMING, MI--   Hospitals in Marquette, Houghton, and Ishpeming are joining together to create a new health system. 

Marquette General Duke LifePoint, Portage, and Bell hospitals are now under a unified brand, called U.P. Health System.  Officials unveiled the new name and logo at a press conference at bell Tuesday.  The system’s mission statement is “making our communities healthier.” 

Officials say working together, the two community hospitals and Marquette General will improve services to the region and increase patient satisfaction. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
