NMU holds New Business Venture Competition

MARQUETTE, MI--   The NMU College of Business is inviting university and high school students to take 

part in its 11th annual New Business Venture Competition. Individuals or teams of up to five can compete for a $5,000 cash prize and another $5,000 in business support. The best high school idea will win $500.

Participants must first submit an electronic “intent to compete” form and business proposal by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 27. A committee will choose finalists, who will submit a detailed business plan by Friday, March 2.

The competition will be held Thursday, March 29. Finalists will display prototypes of their products at a trade fair; present their ideas to judges at the fair; and give a five-minute pitch to the judges in a “Shark-Tank”-type atmosphere. The winner will be announced afterward.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
