NMU moving forward with EAN plan

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Northern Michigan University Board of Trustees has approved the final terms of an investment award agreement to expand its Educational Access Network across the U.P.

The Michigan Strategic Fund is investing $6.5 million in the project, while NMU will contribute $3.2 million in matching funds. As it recovers costs through subscriptions, Northern will return 35 percent of net proceeds to the Strategic Fund to repay the investment.

NMU intends to move forward with a plan to equip 64 cities and townships throughout the U.P. with EAN technology over the next two years. Access is available to university students and residents who take personal and professional development courses. Northern is also working with the region’s K-12 school districts and colleges to deliver broadband to students and their families.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
