Northern coach back on the ice

MARQUETTE, MI--   NMU hockey coach Walt Kyle and associate director of athletics Bridget Berube Carter are back on the job after being put on administrative leave by university officials.

Northern spokesman Derek Hall notified the two Monday around noon.

Hall would not say why they were suspended, citing “personnel issues.”  Some sources indicate it had to do with the hockey team and NCAA compliance, which Carter handled.  NMU athletic director Forrest Karr has been put in charge of the team’s compliance for the time being.

Hall says the Human Resources Department and a university auditor conducted an internal review but found no violation of school policy.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
