Northern Michigan University rink named for Rick Comley

Northern Michigan University

MARQUETTE, MI--   The rink at NMU’s Berry Events Center is being renamed the Rick Comley Rink in honor of the longtime head hockey coach.

Comley spent 26 years behind the Wildcat bench and helped the team win the 1991 NCAA Division I Championship.

As the ice goes in this week, crews will place cutouts of the university and rink names around the center-ice circle.

A formal dedication ceremony will be held at the first regular-season home game October 7. Northern’s opponent will be Lake Superior State University, where Comley played and began his coaching career.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
