Nurses, OSF reach tentative contract agreement

ESCANABA, MI--   A picket by registered nurses at OSF St. Francis Hospital is canceled, after a tentative three-year agreement was reached with administration Wednesday night.

The Michigan Nurses Association says the contract includes provisions to recruit and retain experienced nurses. That was a major sticking point for RNs in previous negotiations.

“We care about this hospital and we care about our patients,” said Sara Kofsky, RN and president of the Professional Nurses Council of St. Francis Hospital, the local MNA union at Escanaba. “We feel like this is a fair agreement that will benefit nurses, patients, and our whole community.”

Details of the agreement are being shared with OSF nurses, who will hold a ratification vote July 9th. If ratified, details of the contract will be shared with the public.

About 133 registered nurses have been working without a contract since May 1st.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
