Obscene calls received in Escanaba area

ESCANABA, MI--   The Escanaba Department of Public Safety says it’s received reports of a phone solicitation in the area.

A resident will receive a call in a computer-generated voice from a local number or someone they know. The call is allegedly about lowering credit card interest rates, but when the resident pushes a number according to their choice a live person comes on the line and makes sexually obscene comments.

When the resident hangs up and dials the number back, they’re connected to the real owner of the number, who isn’t aware of the obscene call that was just made.

Officers say if you’re not expecting a call regarding credit card interest rates, just hang up.
