Officer kills pitt bull in Escanaba

ESCANABA, MI--   Escanaba police have shot and killed a dog they say tried to attack a pregnant woman.

Tuesday around 12:20 p.m. the Department of Public Safety received a call that a loose pit bull charged the woman on the 300 block of South 15th Street.  When an officer responded the dog cornered him in a back yard, then attacked.  The officer shot the pit bull twice and it fell, but jumped up and ran away.

After a brief search officers located the injured dog, which subsequently died from the gunshot wounds.

Police say the owner of the pit bull was on the scene and is fully aware of what happened.
