Officer shoots Soo man

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Sault Ste. Marie.

Michigan State Police say city officers were called Wednesday around 4:20 p.m. to a residence on

Minneapolis Street.  They encountered a man on the porch holding a knife to a woman’s throat.  When the subject repeatedly ignored the officers’ command to let the woman go, police shot him.  As the man fell he released the victim.

Both were taken to War Memorial Hospital, where they remain.

State Police are investigating the incident, and will submit a report to the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office when done.

The MSP Grayling Forensic Science Lab has processed the scene for evidence.
