Officials close South Beach for the year

MARQUETTE, MI--   South Beach in Marquette is now closed to recreational swimming for the season.

In a release Thursday city officials said the move is a precautionary measure as a result of elevated levels of bacteria, specifically E. coli.  Officials say they’ll continue to work with the Superior Watershed Partnership to investigate and track potential sources of contamination in the area.

All other beaches will remain open.

South Beach was closed and reopened three times this summer because of bacterial concerns.  North Beach was closed once.
