Officials investigate Munising Township house explosion

MUNISING TOWNSHIP, MI--   Police say a house exploded in Alger County’s Munising Township.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office says it happened Friday around 1 p.m. on Old Indiantown Road. Emergency responders say the house was totally disintegrated when they arrived on the scene.

They found the lone occupant of the home lying underneath debris. The woman was conscious and alert. She was extricated and taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Officials don’t know what caused the explosion.

The accident is being investigated by the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal. The Munising Township Fire Department and City of Munising Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
