Officials say driver of car that hit Escanaba boy didn't stop

ESCANABA, MI--   There’s no update on the condition of a 14-year-old Escanaba boy who was run over by a car as he hid in a pile of leaves on the side of the road.   

The accident happened Tuesday night on the 400 block of 2nd Avenue South. 

Police say the 16-year-old driver of the Chevy Monte Carlo didn’t stop after hitting the pile.  Officers stopped the vehicle some time later. 

The victim was airlifted to UP Health System Marquette with serious injuries.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
