MARQUETTE, MI-- Hiawatha National Forest officials are holding an open house in Marquette on Saturday.
Public Affairs Officer Janel Crooks says among other things the event will feature booths about forestry, citizen science, prescribed fire, lighthouse preservation projects, and career opportunities. She says officials will also hold a listening session, which will function as a means to gather input on forest operations.
“As a way to reach out to the area public—maybe users of the forest, recreational users, or perhaps people who have other interests in the forest—so that we can hear from the public about what uses they envision in the forest, what concerns they might have, what questions they might have about forest management,” she says.
The open house takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Staybridge Suites in Marquette.
