ORV accident in Munising Township injures man

MUNISING TOWNSHIP, MI--   A downstate man has suffered severe injuries in an ORV accident in Alger County. 

State Police from the Negaunee Post say the crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Sunday on County Road H-58 near the Bear Trap Dam in Munising Township.

Troopers say James Welsh, 49, of Farmington Hills was following a family member on another ORV on the side of the road when the tires of the two vehicles made contact. 

Welsh was ejected from his ORV.  He was wearing a helmet. 

Welsh was taken to Marquette General Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.  The other driver was not injured. 

The accident remains under investigation. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
