Painesdale woman injured in three-vehicle accident

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, MI--   One person was taken to the hospital after three vehicles crashed in Houghton County Friday.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched around 7:35 p.m. to M-26 and Green Acres Road in Portage Township. They say a 64-year-old Atlantic Mine man was making a left-hand turn onto Green Acres Road when he failed to see a southbound vehicle with its headlights off driven by a 66-year-old Painesdale woman.

The man hit the rear driver’s side of the woman’s vehicle, causing her to spin out and cross the centerline. The vehicle slid into the path of a northbound pickup driven by a 31-year-old Houghton woman.

The Painesdale woman was extricated from her vehicle by the Hurontown Fire Department with the Jaws of Life. She was taken to UPSH-Portage with non-life-threatening injuries. The other drivers sought their own treatment.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
