Peters addresses the needs of seniors while in Ishpeming

Senator Gary Peters

ISHPEMING, MI--   U.S. Senator Gary Peters spent the third day of his Michigan motorcycle tour at the Ishpeming Senior Center Wednesday.

The Democrat met with local seniors and toured renovation projects underway at the center.

Peters says bipartisan legislation he’s cosponsored would amend the Older Americans Act by requiring departments across the federal government to develop a set of goals on healthy-aging and age-friendly communities. It would establish a public-private coordinating body to provide recommendations for implementing those goals.

Ishpeming Senior Center Director Elyse Bertucci says area seniors deserve to have access to programs that help them find affordable housing, quality health care and engaging social environments.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
