Peters honors vets on first day of #RideMI tour

MARQUETTE, MI--   On day one of his #RideMI motorcycle tour, U.S. Senator Gary Peters honored those at Marquette’s Jacobetti Home for Veterans who served in the Vietnam War.

A former lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserve, Peters presented Vietnam vets from the U.P. with commemorative lapel pins in recognition of their service. The ceremony was held with the assistance of Vietnam Veterans of America Post 380.

Peters heads to Baraga and Ontonagon counties for the second day of his tour Tuesday. He will tour Certainteed, a manufacturer of exterior and interior building products, in L’Anse, and visit Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital to discuss rural health clinics and telehealth services.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
