Pets die in Gladstone fire

GLADSTONE, MI--   A Gladstone house sustained serious smoke damage from a fire over the weekend.

Gladstone Public Safety officers were called Sunday around 1:15 p.m. to the 1100 block of Minnesota Avenue. When they arrived the house was full of smoke.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which likely originated from a large bag of batteries being stored in the rear entry of the house.

No injuries are reported, but it’s believed the homeowner’s three cats perished in the fire.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
