Prelim scheduled for Gladstone arson suspect

ESCANABA, MI--   A preliminary exam is set for a Gladstone man accused of arson and vandalism in an Escanaba church. 

Thomas Harris, 19, was arrested Monday night after police found he’d extinguished a fire in the kitchen of the Harbor Lights Church of God. They determined Harris had set the fire.

Escanaba Public Safety says paint was also found on the walls, floor, and various items in the church.

Harris is charged with third-degree arson, breaking and entering a building with intent, larceny in a building, and malicious destruction of property, $1,000 to

$20,000.

His preliminary hearing is set for August 31 in Escanaba District Court. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
