Prison time for Norway would-be robber

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI--   A Dickinson County man has been sentenced for trying to rob a Norway gas station in October.

John Leipzig, 31, of Norway was allegedly intoxicated when he entered the Krist station with a modified BB pistol and said he was going to rob the store.  He also apparently tried to pull the cashier to the back of the store so they could have sexual contact.

Leipzig eventually left the scene, saying he’d be back to rob the gas station.

Leipzig was charged with attempted armed robbery.  He pleaded no contest to the charge last month and was sentenced last week to between 2.5 and ten years in prison.

The judge allowed him to enter the plea because Leipzig claimed he couldn’t remember most of the incident due to his intoxication.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
