Prisoners assault Marquette Branch Prison staff again

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette Branch Prison staff were assaulted for the fourth time this year on Friday.

A spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections says just after 7 a.m. yard time for maximum security prisoners was beginning when two prisoners started punching and kicking two employees.

Additional staff responded to the scene. Officials say no weapons were used but it was still a dangerous situation.

The prisoners responsible for the assault have been transferred to another maximum-security prison.

The employees who were assaulted were taken to UPHS-Marquette for treatment and have since been released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
