ANN ARBOR, MI (MPRN)-- Activists across Michigan gathered Monday to protest President Trump's national emergency declaration.
White House officials say the declaration will free up more than $8 billion for a southern border wall.
More than 100 people showed up to protest in front of Ann Arbor's federal courthouse. Other protests were organized in Lansing, Ypsilanti, and Ferndale.
They say Trump's emergency declaration is an abuse of power and they want Congress to put a stop to it.
Adam Nash is one of the organizers.
"We are having a national emergency, but the national emergency is Trump. Trump's power grab," he said.
The protesters are urging people to contact Michigan's U-S Senators and ask for their help in overturning the emergency declaration.
Trump says a wall is necessary for national security.
