Up to public, businesses to stop the spread of COVID, health department says

IRON RIVER, MI--   The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department is strongly advising people and businesses to wear face masks to prevent the number of area coronavirus cases from spiking further.

Health officials say the number of positive cases has increased significantly since July 1. The department has received 10 new cases: nine in Dickinson County and one in Iron County. Of those cases, six of the people were asymptomatic. That means they have no symptoms but could be spreading COVID-19 without knowing.

The department is asking businesses to remain vigilant by requiring employees and the public to wear facial coverings and enforce social distancing in their facilities.

Officials say they’ve made all information regarding the importance of those measures available to businesses. They say now it’s up to community leaders and the public to do their part before COVID-19 overwhelms local health care systems.
