Ribbon cutting being held for new Marquette apartment building

MARQUETTE, MI--   The City of Marquette is celebrating the restoration of the old Holy Family Orphanage with a ribbon cutting for the new Grandview Marquette apartments.

Friday’s event starts at 1 p.m. Free public tours will begin at 12:30 p.m. Officials say parking will be limited, so free rides on shuttle buses from Mattson Lower Harbor Park will be available every 20 minutes until 4 p.m.

Home Renewal Systems led the repurposing of the historic property in partnership with Community Action Alger Marquette. Grandview contains 56 one- to three-bedroom apartments. They’ll be offered to households earning up to $36,000 dollars a year, depending on family size. Fourteen of the apartments are set aside for those needing some level of support for successful occupancy.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
