Rider in critical condition following ATV accident

DAFTER TOWNSHIP, MI--   A 29-year-old man has been seriously injured in an ATV crash in Chippewa County.

Troopers from the Sault Ste. Marie Post were dispatched Wednesday around 8:15 p.m. to a camp on West 11 Mile Road in Dafter Township. They found a man lying unconscious next to a four-wheeler.

Investigation revealed the rider lost control of the ATV, which struck a tree.

The man was taken to War Memorial Hospital, then flown to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids in critical condition.

Officials say he wasn’t wearing a helmet and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
