HANCOCK, MI-- No students were injured when the roof of a Hancock elementary school caved in Thursday morning.
WLUC-TV says students of Berkall Elementary were already on their way to school when officials discovered the damage. The roof of one classroom collapsed and damaged adjacent classroom walls in the process.
School was dismissed shortly afterward. Classes are canceled Friday while crews clean up the area.
Officials say a combination of heavy snow and about an inch of rain Wednesday night likely contributed to the cave-in.
Students will be moved to different spaces within the building. The affected room will likely be closed off until the next school year.
