RSVP programs in UP get federal funding

WASHINGTON, D.C.--   Congressman Jack Bergman has announced two U.P. agencies have received grants for Senior Corps RSVP programming.

The money comes from the Corporation for National and Community Service. It was awarded as part of a grant competition to strengthen and expand Retired and Senior Volunteer Program – or RSVP – programming.

Marquette County Aging Services will receive $40,000 and the Menominee, Delta, Schoolcraft Community Action Agency & Human Resources Authority $66,968.

Senior Corps currently engages 220,000 people nationwide through its Foster Grandparent, Senior Companion and RSVP programs. Through RSVP those 55 and older help address the nation’s most pressing challenges while staying active and healthy through service.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
