Rudyard man struck, killed by car

RUDYARD, MI--   A Chippewa County man has died, after he was hit by a car in Rudyard last week.

The accident happened Friday around 6 p.m. on Mackinac Trail.  Police say Mildred Forgrave, 88, of Rudyard was southbound when she slowed down for bicycles on either side of the road traveling in the same direction.  As Forgrave moved to the centerline in between the bicycles, Max Mackie, 87, of Rudyard walked into the roadway without looking and was struck by Forgrave’s vehicle.  Mackie was taken to War Memorial Hospital, where he died from multiple injuries. 

Forgrave was not ticketed for the accident, which remains under investigation. 

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
