ESCANABA, MI-- The Delta County Airport has begun rehabilitation work.
The cross-wind runway and Alpha taxiway are being milled and redone, and the taxiway lights are being replaced with energy-efficient LEDs.
The $2.5 million project is being funded by the Federal Aviation Administration, the airport, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.
The Delta County Airport is a non-hub facility that’s part of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems. Tt’s deemed to be significant to national air transportation, which means it will receive a federal grant that covers 95 percent of airport improvement costs.
Officials say the project will last through the summer and will have no impact on commercial air service.
