Sanders reaches out to Michiganders for Hillary Clinton

EAST LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   Senator Bernie Sanders was in Michigan Thursday to campaign for Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. He criss-crossed the state with stops in Dearborn, Ann Arbor, East Lansing and Grand Rapids.

Before his East Lansing stop on Michigan State University’s campus, college-aged students lined up for a chance to hear Sanders. Among them were MSU sophomores and roommates, Harli Wood and Natalie Pate. Both supported Sanders during the primaries in March, but now plan to vote for Clinton in November.

“I’m really excited to be here to see what Bernie has to say about why people who originally supported him should now be supporting Hillary,” Pate said.

For Wood, a big reason she “really loves” Sanders is because of his free college advocacy. “I’m a huge supporter for free college and I think it would be super important and helpful for our country,” she said. “So I just think that Bernie’s such an inspiration in everything that he stands for.”

Sanders did speak about college education during his speech, although this time it was about Clinton’s college affordability plan. Sanders said he supports Clinton’s plan.

“It is absolutely absurd that hundreds of thousands of bright young people who have the qualifications and the desire cannot go to college for one reason,” he said. “Their families lack the money.”

Sanders was also in Michigan to promote voter registration. The last day to register to vote in the November general election is October 11. Sanders urged viewers to vote saying, “This campaign is not about Donald Trump. It is not about Hillary Clinton. It is about you and your families and the future of the middle class in this country.”

Clinton plans to campaign in Michigan on Monday. She was previously in Michigan on August 11th.
