Several U.P. recreation projects funded by NRTF

LANSING, MI--   Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed legislation authorizing $26 million in Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund grants.

The bill approves funding for 64 recreation development projects and land purchases recommended by the Trust Fund board.

The board recommended $18.6 million in acquisition grants and nearly $7.4 million in recreation development grants.

Of the recommended development grant funding, $6.8 million would support 30 local government projects and $540,000 would support four DNR projects.

Development grants for U.P. projects include $85,000 for the Rapid River Falls ORV/ATV Campground; $299,900 for the Bessemer to Ramsay Iron Belle Trail; and $297,000 for development of the Keweenaw Point Trail from High Rock to the Montreal River.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
