Shooting range meeting held in Sands Township

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI--   The Department of Natural Resources held a public meeting in Sands Township Sunday to discuss potential sites for a new state shooting range in Marquette County. 

Officials shared a list of sites being considered, then listened to attendee’s thoughts about those and other possible sites. 

DNR officials say the meeting is just the first step in a long development process for the shooting range. 

Potential range locations considered in Marquette County:

·    Cliff’s Property: T47N R25W Section 19

·    Sands West: T46N R25W Sections 4 and 9

·    Sands East/Olson Road: T46N R25W Section 12

·    Camp 4 Pit: T47N R23W Sections 23 and 24

Other locations recently suggested:

·    County Landfill Property: T47N R25W Section 21

·    County Property: T46N R25W Section 34

Locations reviewed by DNR staff but discarded as not viable options:

·    Blueberry Ridge: T47N R25W Sections 22 and 27

·    Thunder Valley: T47N R25W Sections 26 and 36

·    Wetmore Landing/LPI: T49N R25W Sections 18, 19, 29, 30 and 31; T49N R26W Sections 13, 24, 25 and 36
