Soo receives grant for facade improvement

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The city of Sault Ste. Marie will make improvements to its downtown area, thanks to support from the Michigan Strategic Fund.

The city was awarded more than $485,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds for its façade improvement project. The money will be used to rehabilitate the exterior of three historically significant buildings—the Cadillac Building and Alpha Bar on Portage Avenue and the Arfstrom Pharmacy on Ashmun Street.

At least $485,505 will be contributed by the building owners to be used for additional façade work, architecture and engineering, and minor interior improvements.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
