State grant aids in downtown Marquette development

MARQUETTE, MI--   The City of Marquette has been awarded nearly $500,000 to renovate the Delft Theater.

The $481,000 Community Development Block Grant will be used to convert the vacant building into a

restaurant and dinner theater.  Changes include a rooftop deck, a flexible stage for live events, and balcony seating.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority will contribute $10,000 toward the project.  Officials say it will generate nearly $1.3 million in private investment and create 25 jobs.  At least 13 of them will be held by low-to-moderate income workers.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
