Sugar Island man involved in domestic violence, shooting identified

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--    Police have identified a Sugar Island man who was stabbed by a 12-year-old boy for assaulting the boy’s mother. 

Edgardo Acevedo-Silva, 33, is charged with domestic violence, assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm in a building, and felony firearms. He’s accused of firing multiple rounds into the floor of a residence on Labor Day. Fearing for his mother’s life, a boy stabbed Silva four times. He and his mother ran from the house and Silva chased them with the gun.

Deputies from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Silva, then took him to the hospital for treatment.

He remains lodged in the Chippewa County Jail. A status conference is set for

November 7.
