Teen hiding under leaves hit by car

ESCANABA, MI--   A 14-year-old Escanaba boy suffered serious injuries when he hid in a leaf pile and was struck by a car.  

Officials say the incident happened Tuesday around 6 p.m. on the 400 block of 2nd Avenue South. 

The pile was next to the curb in the street.  A westbound vehicle driven by a 16-year-old and containing two passengers drove through the pile and ran over the boy. 

The victim was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital, then airlifted to UP Health System Marquette.  His condition is unknown at this time.

Police continue to investigate the incident.  

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
