Tri-DENT arrests two in the Soo on drug charges

Chippewa County Sheriff's Office

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The TRI-county Drug Enforcement Team arrested two men during an investigation into the sale of heroin and cocaine in Sault Ste. Marie last week.

Tri-Dent detectives had a motel under surveillance in the early morning hours of May 10 when they saw Andre Hudak leave on a motorcycle. Officers from the Sault Police Department tried to stop Hudak, who took off. The motorcycle crashed after a short distance and Hudak attempted to run before he was caught.

Hudak was arrested on outstanding warrants, fleeing from police, failure to stop after a collision, resisting/assaulting police and operating with no insurance. The Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case for possible narcotics charges.

Shortly after Hudak left the motel a second man—identified as Alonzo Upchurch—left the motel on foot. Because he had outstanding warrants police tried to arrest Upchurch, who ran. Officials say he attempted to throw multiple bags of narcotics during the chase.

Detectives caught Upchurch and arrested him for resisting/assaulting police, felony possession of heroin and felony possession of cocaine.
