__________________________

UPDATE:  2/15/15 9:15 am:  The following roads are now OPEN:

  • US-2/41 between Rapid River and Gladstone
  • US-41 between Rapid River and Trenary
  • M-28 between Munising and Marquette

The following roads are CLOSED due to whiteout conditions:

  • M-35 between Perkins and Lathrop in Delta County

  • US-2 from Gladstone to M-94 in Manistique

  • US-41 from the US-2/US-41 junction in Rapid River north to the Alger County line

  • US-41 South from Furnace Street to the Welcome Center at the Marquette city limits

From WLUC-TV:

Unless absolutely necessary, residents should remain off local roadways to allow emergency management, law enforcement and other essential personnel  an unobstructed path until weather conditions improve Saturday evening and overnight.

This recommendation comes as several motorists and snowmobilers have become stranded, putting others at risk during the peak of the harsh winter weather.

If you must venture out, be sure to have a emergency plan. Should you find yourself in need of assistance, rescue may be hours away. Remember: frostbite can occur on exposed skin within twenty minutes these conditions.
