UPDATE: Police say the victim in the crash is Gladys Cousineau, 88, of Escanaba.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

ESCANABA, MI-- The Escanaba Public Safety Department is investigating a fatal car accident on Danforth Road near Bay College.
It happened Friday around 2:30 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene they found a vehicle had crashed into a tree and was on fire. They extinguished the flames and extricated the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle.
No names have been released, pending notification of family.
The Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police assisted at the scene.
